Mutual Recognition Agreement Schweiz

MRAs are trade agreements aimed at facilitating market access and promoting greater international harmonization of compliance standards while protecting consumer safety. Agreement on the mutual recognition of conformity assessment of products between Turkey and EFTA (entered into force on 5 July 2011). Protocol E to the EFTA-Turkey Free Trade Agreement covers all harmonised product sectors in trade between the EEA-EFTA States and Turkey. As regards trade between Turkey and Switzerland, this Protocol shall apply to the sectors covered by the EU-Switzerland MRI in which the respective legislation of this Agreement is considered equivalent. Agreement on the Mutual Recognition of Conformity Assessments, Certificates and Markings between Canada and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (entered into force on 1 January 2001). Sectors covered: telecommunications terminal equipment, electromagnetic compatibility (ELECTROMAGNETIC), electrical safety, recreational craft, medicines (good manufacturing practices, GMP) and medical devices. The MRA with Israel is a Compliant Industrial Product Evaluation and Acceptance Agreement (ACAA). This is a specific type of MRA based on the alignment of the legal system and infrastructure of the country concerned with that of the EU. By designating a conformity assessment body, the competent Swiss authority confirms that the body meets the technical requirements relevant for carrying out a conformity assessment. Accreditation can be a prerequisite for the designation (and recognition) of a conformity assessment body.

Switzerland is not an EU Member State, but it is linked to the EU through bilateral agreements. From 2014 to 2018, the EU and Switzerland developed a proposal that would include the free movement of people, air transport, the movement of goods and people by rail and road, trade in agricultural products and the mutual recognition of standards. Under this cross-cutting agreement, MUTUAL Recognition Agreements (MRAs) can be signed. .
